» Association Resgate

Association Resgate was founded in 1923 by Father John of the Holy Trinity to take care for unprotected children and adolescents living in morally inadequate conditions. The Count of Agrolongo and the Countess of Cuba left the Association, in legacy, land in Lisbon and Porto Salvo on which the Instituto Condessa de Cuba was built in the 1970’s.

As a Private Institution of Social Welfare, the Associação Resgate has cooperation agreements with the Social Security receiving support for the proper functioning and maintenance of the Institutes which it runs.

The Instituto Conde de Agrolongo in Lisbon, built in the buildings which were donated by the Count is home to 26 children and young girls of ages 8 to 21 who have come from dysfunctional families and been taken in by the Associação Resgate. These girls live at the Institute and attend schools within the city pursuing their normal schooling and education.

The Instituto Condessa de Cuba located on Quinta da Quintã in Porto Salvo works on two capacities: as a boarding home for 36 residents from the age of 3 till adulthood, coming from inadequate family environments similar to those of the Instituto Conde de Agrolongo, which reside there and most attend outside schools; and the Day School which is attended by about two hundred children, in the most part belonging to local resident families, but also the boarding children. It is composed of a Nursery, Kindergarten, pre-school, after-school activities and study rooms.

In the spirit of its founder the Associação Resgate puts forth other initiatives such as the project of Palliative Medicine in Porto Salvo, the restoration of the Chapel of our Lady of Piety built in the 18th Century and a Resting Home as well as other projects aimed at current social needs.

Presently the Association’s projects try to respond to the needs closest at reach of the most unprotected social groups such as children and senior citizens. The Associação Resgate is open to partnerships and sponsorships with the objective of rehabilitating its assets which once.
